We are excited to update citizens on the progress of our new Darlington County Museum. This 8,800 sq. ft. museum addition is the gift of Carolyn “Bet” Norment Phillips who left an estate bequeath of $4 million dollars to the Historical Commission for the purpose of building a county museum in 2019. Bet’s love of history and her commitment to Darlington County is to the benefit of us all. Construction is slated to begin in early 2021.

We Have Signed A Contract For Construction

On Monday, November 22, 2021, the Darlington County Council met in Special Session to award Tungten LLC the contract to construct our new museum addition.  Tungsten will mobilize in early February 2022 and the construction period is one year.

First Step

To begin, the fence had to go…

As we move towards the construction company beginning to work onsite, there are a few things that we must do.  Removing the “old jail” fence was one of those things.  Stay tuned as more information about our groundbreaking will be posted soon.
