On this date Sat Jul 18 1812 Residents of Darlington Village hold a mass meeting endorsing the nation’s recent declaration of war on England. Which was to become the War of 1812.
On this date Tue Jul 18 1854, The Washington Lodge No. 2 Knights of Jerico, was organized at the Darlington Court House in the Masonic Hall by James Bell, from Sumterville.

1994 – Rwandan genocide: The Rwandan Patriotic Front takes control of Gisenyi and north western Rwanda, forcing the interim government into Zaire and ending the genocide.
2013 – The Government of Detroit, with up to $20 billion in debt, files for the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.
